Update
October 02, 2023
The water system continues to show the occasional presence of coliform despite the lake temperature dropping. After a lengthy conversation with our Certified Water Operator, he is strongly encouraging residents to cease all automated irrigation so we can revert to using the smaller pump. This will provide better chlorine contact time and better water quality.
Residents have been asking when the Boil Water Notice will end. The Board of Trustees have no authority to end the Boil Water Notice. This is a very frustrating situation for all involved. Our CWO has pointed out that other small water districts on Skaha Lake are exeriencing the same problems with coliform counts (Heritage Hills, Wrights Beach, Kaleden).
The location of our intake pipe may also be contributing to the coliform counts. At this time, data from the engineering company assessing the water intake pipe, strongly supports extending the depth. Upon completion of the assessment in 2024 a final location of the intake will be recommended. We have been advised that the time line to install a deeper intake may be two years or more, one factor is permitting from all agencies involved.
The Board of Trustees advise residents that in-home solutions such as Reverse Osmosis Filtration or Ultra Violet Disinfection Systems will provide cleaner drinking water and allow you to avoid boiling your drinking water; this however is at the homeowner's expense.
One of the Board of Trustees, Derek Jedrusiak, has resigned, we thank him for his many contributions.
Nominations are now open to fill the remainder of Mr. Jedrusiak's term which extends to April 2026. Candidates must be a taxpayer of the Skaha Estates Improvement District, be nominated by two taxpayers and be community minded. If interested please contact our office at skahaestateswater@gmail.com to obtain a nomination paper.
Nominations will close October 31, 2023, if necessary an election date will be announced.
Thank you.
